WFMW - Communal Sock Drawer

Works For Me Wednesday is hosted by Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer. Visit today’s carnival there to find more great tips from other bloggers!

~*~*~*~*~

In my utility room I have a dresser. It’s an old dresser from an old ugly bedroom set that we were given. I use the large, flat top to fold my clothes on, and I use the drawers for all kinds of things: gardening tools that I don’t want to leave outside (there’s no room in the sheds), tablecloths, strange things I can’t find any other home for… and there’s our communal sock drawer.

Two of my sons are 2 years apart in age and they wear the same size clothes - including socks. It used to be that doing laundry was crazy, trying to figure out which sock belonged to which son. Never mind the fallout if I mistakenly put Kelsey’s sock into Brendon’s pile. Then through the week if they couldn’t find a match in their drawer, they were always going and stealing from their brother’s sock drawer anyway.

So I came up with the idea of a communal sock drawer. It’s the top middle drawer in the dresser, so as I fold clothes I can leave it open a few inches and just stuff socks in there to my heart’s content, not worrying about who they belong to. When the boys need socks, they just grab a pair out of the drawer. No more sock-induced stress for me, no more screams of “Mommmmmmmm, he’s got my sock and he won’t give it back!”… just peace. And a happy little community of socks.

Communal sock drawer - it works for me!

Let’s Parrrrrrrrrrrrrr-tay!

The Ultimate Blog Party is finally here!
Hiya girls, hope you like the place… I’ve been tackling left and right trying to make space for y’all to sit down. :)

For those of you who stop by semi-regularly, the UBP is a little internet girl’s-night-out where we all go out and do an “around the world” like the men do with the pubs. Only it’s girl’s WEEK out, as the party’s a week long, and instead of hitting pubs, we’re hitting each other’s blogs. :)
Hey, who said women don’t know how to party?
If you’ve missed all of the excitement you can still join in, just click on this snazzy little button:

Ultimate Blog Party
Now, for those of you who are visiting FROM the party, WELCOME!
I’m Carrie (as if you couldn’t tell by the blog’s name), and I’m a weird homeschooling mom. I put raingutters on the inside of my house (to put books into) and I have babies in bathtubs with my hubby catching. On purpose. (No, really!) I have another blog, Big World Homeschool where I celebrate homeschooling and have a fun little homeschooling meme (Show & Tell Saturday) that any and every homeschooler is welcome to join! While you’re here, I simply *must* throw in my two cents supporting the lovely Jessica Duquette of It’s Not About Your Stuff (yeppers, the “Ask The Organizer” expert from 5minutesformom). I read a bunch of posts on her blog, listened to a nice long audio show, and had an epiphany last month. It really ISN’T about your stuff. So if your house seems to be in a total state of CHAOS (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome) all the time and you feel like you need to declutter and/or get organized, I really REALLY recommend that you give her blog a visit. Maybe you’ll have an epiphany like I did. :)

As well as being a homeschooler, I’m also a homebirther. (Go me! Oh wait, I mentioned that already, didn’t I? Shit. Well, being the mom of 3 boys, I’m scatterbrained. Forgive me.)
At the moment I’m really into the law of attraction.
I’ve also written a fantasy genre book (many moons ago) that I’ve never even tried to get published, and I just decided I’m gonna put the darn thing online for free. I even registered a domain name for it just a minute ago. Now I gotta get it scanned in, arghh…

I’m one of the 2,000 bloggers, I tackle random weird spots of housework through the week and post it online on Tuesdays for others to laugh at (glutton for punishment, I suppose), and I dig up an old photo every weekend for a scavenger hunt. Yes, I *am* a geek.

For more about me, check my About Me page. (Imagine that. A page all about me called “About Me”. Whodathunkit.)

Much of the time you’ll catch me babbling on about these three fellas:

Kelsey & Brendon

Kelsey and Brendon (above), and Alex (below).
Alexander
Aren’t they cute?
Don’t let that fool you.
They’re mischievious little buggers. Darn proud of it, too.
Imagine homeschooling these three little imps and trying to keep a clean house and your sanity. Can’t, can you?
Now you know where MY sanity went. And my clean house. ;)So that’s my little corner of the web; I hope ya come back often to hear me rant and ramble, bitch about the headaches of putting a full novel online, and start to explore the law of attraction. (I’m putting up a few websites on that soon, too. Did I mention glutton for punishment?)

Thanks for stopping by!
