Two Weeks Later
Well, Papaw Jess has been coming over daily for two weeks now, and all is going well!
His strength has improved markedly. The first week here he needed help getting up out of a chair; now he gets up on his own - even out of the bowl-shaped papasan we’ve got sitting on the front porch! Mom and Dad tell me that he walks around their house in the evenings without using his cane at all.
His short-term memory is still sketchy, but it seems to be improving. He can tell Mom and Dad how the boys were during the day and some of the stuff they were doing, but he still can’t remember when he last ate. We’ll chalk that one up to priorities. 
Thankfully there hasn’t been a “bowel incident” other than the first day he was here. Woot for real food!
We’re all loving having him here and he seems to be really enjoying it. Last weekend Mom told me he was bored out of his mind, but he perked right up when we visited and dropped Brendon and Alex off to spend the night (Mike, Kelsey and I went to a Linkin Park concert and weren’t going to be getting home until late).
Unfortunately, my body still refuses to get into the “be awake by 6am” routine. I’ve always been a nocturnal person, where heading to bed at 3am or later was normal. I’ve been seeing way more sunrises than I’ve wanted to, lol, but Jess refuses to lay down on the couch and go back to sleep once he gets here. He’s tough to get out of bed, Mom says, but once he’s up, he’s up.
So far, so good… I think he might even be ready to head out to yard sales this weekend with Mom. A far cry from the state they found him in when they went to visit TN a few weeks ago. Hopefully we’ll be able to head out and about soon as well; the van’s got something going on with it and Mike doesn’t want me going any further than a mile or two in it until he can get under there and fix it.
