Your post about creating space has really inspired me to continue with my purging. It is really nice to think of it in a positive way and not as losing something.

I think one of the hardest part of the whole process is finding someplace to get rid of the stuff... I throw out the true junk but the actual nice things are a lot of work to give away... I totally understand what you are going through...

Can I post a link to your creating space post on my blog... I think it would help my friends and family see things in a different light :)

Carrie,

Next time also try Samaritan House. They are very reliable with us, and not so picky. 583-7211. Thanks for dropping my the blog.

I can't believe they wouldn't take that stuff the first time. It looks fine to me, and it's really not that much, weird. I've donated more at one time with no problem, but not to CHKD.

Brite and Fizzy,
We do have a large Freecycle group here that I've used before (both to give and receive). I'll be using it again to get rid of the rest of the stuff. I'm just wary of it, because many times the people don't show up at all after begging for the items and giving me a huge sob story about how they need them via email.

Leslie - hey there! *waving southeast*
Be sure to check out Happy Hearts At Home as well, Alexandra is another local HSer up in Hampton.

It's true. I worked at a non-profit once. It costs them money to have stuff hauled away, besides not having time to fix things. Knowing this, I still got annoyed when one of them (can't remember which one) wouldn't take a wheelchair I had because it hadn't been cleaned well enough. Well, the thing is, I didn't have time to clean it at the time, but wanted it out. Amusingly enough, I put it in my car and took it to your nemesis CHKD and they took it!

Anyway, I enjoy your blog. It's always fun to find local homeschooling bloggers. We live in Virginia Beach.

Rave-
Just a thought, a lot of charitable organizations really don't have the resources to do fix ups and such...costs them more than it's worth BUT there is something you could do that would purge your purge pile...run a free ad somewhere saying you have FREE household items to give away. You'd be surprised at the number of people who really are down on their luck and can't even afford to buy a used couch from Goodwill and would be really really grateful to get much needed items for free.
