Usually folks (especially anti-smoking folks) like to say that “Smoking Stinks”. Well, I’m here to tell ya, quitting smoking stinks - literally.
I was a 2-pack-a-day gal. Marb Lights, boxed. I guess I really shouldn’t say “was”… I still am, it’s just that I haven’t had a pack in my hand now for a week and it feels kinda significant.
Anyhoo.
So today I notice that I am smelling my shirt.
I don’t mean that I picked it up and sniffed it… I mean this is my “sweatshirt that goes over everything and gets worn whenever I’m cold” shirt… and I could smell it. It stank pretty bad. It was a mixture of cigarette smoke and sweat, that I hadn’t noticed before.
Okay, no biggee. I toss everything I’m wearing into the hamper and take a shower.
When I get out of the shower, the smell of my shampoo and conditioner is nearly knocking me over, even though I rinsed it all out. I really, *really* smell… pretty. Ack. (Pretty is not a word I associate with myself. Ever.) But this is kinda cool. It’s nice to smell nice, right?
So the boys and I go to the library (two, actually) and pick up a shitload of books and come home. It’s a beautiful balmy 50 degrees outside and they hop on their bikes. I’ve been cleaning my office in fits and starts and I figure hey, this would be a great day to open the window and get some fresh air in here. Ya know, clean out that stale “I used to smoke in here” smell. Yeah, I’ll do that… so I open the window and sit down at my desk to do some fiddling. The nice nearly-springtime air is just pouring through the window behind and above my head, ruffling through my curtains, falling right down on top of me…
…and it REEKS.
Man, it was awful. It wasn’t the air, it was the air after it went through those curtains! I grabbed a handful of curtain (they’re sheer, airy things) and sniffed them and nearly gagged. Wow! Talk about RANK!
Suffice to say I’m now sitting here with a bare window behind and above my head, lol… the curtains are finally in the dryer tumbling around after having to wait all night for hubby to get his pinewood derby assembly station off of my washer.
And yes, I smelled them during the transfer from washer to dryer… and they smell heavenly.
Btw, did you know Senator Obama is a smoker? Marb Reds. Interesting.
What do you think? I wanna know! Please leave a comment :)
