Tackle It Tuesday - Raingutter bookshelves
Today I have to figure out for SURE where our new raingutter bookshelves are going, and then get that area cleared out so we can install them tonight.
We’d originally planned on running them down the hallway, but there’s no natural light in the hallway. Now I’m thinking we should move the living room around and put the shelves by the front windows.
Raingutter bookshelves are a great way to display books, since the kids can see the covers they’re more likely to pluck a book off of the “shelf”.

Once we get ours up I’ll post a pic, but it might not be tonight. We also have a birthday party to get ready for, coming up this Saturday! Ack. Busy busy busy.
Oh… I have a question, too. What do you do with a de-tackling husband?!?!
I found a tip from Peter Walsh to help declutter your kitchen: put all of your utensils into a box. As you need something, take it out and it can then go back into your utensil drawer. Whatever’s still in the box at the end of the month goes bye-bye.
Sounded like a great idea, so I put all of our utensils into a box. Doesn’t make the kitchen counter look too snazzy, but we’re working towards the greater good here.
This morning I get up and notice that the utensil box is not even half-full. Huh?
I open up the utensil drawer and sure enough, hubby has pulled a boatload of utensils out of the box and plopped them straight back into the drawer. Yes, he knows what the box is and what it’s doing there and what the end goal is. Yet he just goes around it anyway.
(Yes, he’s a supreme pack-rat, miser, hoarder - he even still goes into fits where he says “That’s MINE!” like a little kid.)
What do you do when your hubby goes behind you and undermines your attempts at decluttering?

I love the idea of those bookshelves. Very nice!!
As for the hubby, I just keep going about my business taking care of my personal stuff. If it’s both of ours or just his, then I need his co-operation. Usually, it’s a bit of give and take. When he sees the effort that I’m making and the difference in the house, he happily jumps on the bandwagon.

Amanda if I move it out of sight (out of mind) then he won’t think about it at all until he needs something… but at that very moment the roof will blow off of the house as he can’t immediately find what he needs and has to ask where the box is, hehe.
Heather I need my hubby’s cooperation, too. Maybe as I keep going he’ll get on board. I sure hope so. Even if my clean stuff guilt trips him into participating that would still work, lol.

I actually have another big tackle going on today (my kitchen) but the picture is WAY too embarrassing to share. It’s getting better, though!

What an awesome idea for bookshelves!
I find that I have to pack things away on the sly, otherwise my husband AND my kids go behind me and remove things from the box. It’s the regular 1 step forward 2 steps back type deal!

I love this idea. My hubby is on a business trip, but when he gets home I am going to have to show him this! I can’t wait to see your pics!
As far as your husband goes…did you talk to him about it? I think communication is the key. I would hope if you really sit him down and explain to him how important this is to you, let him know that you don’t like him undermining your efforts…maybe he will come around! Good Luck!

Love the rain gutter idea, wish I had the wall space… We have a huge house with no available wall space.
