Photo Hunters - Broken

This week’s theme is “Broken”.
This can be taken so many ways, especially with Valentine’s Day coming up later this week.  Broken hearts? Broken dreams?

My son Kelsey is nuts about archaeology so this news story sparked his interest, and I thought it fit into the theme -both for the photo hunt and for Valentine’s Day- pretty nicely.

This couple was recently unearthed near the town of Verona, Italy - coincedentally where the play Romeo and Juliet was based. This raises new questions as to whether the play itself was based on an old legend or folktale, but I digress.  The find was very rare as it is a dual burial and the couple is actually embracing.  They’re estimated to be 5-6,000 years old.

Broken bones, broken hearts, a young couple whose dreams were shattered and broken… over 5,000 years ago.
Some things never change.

Very interesting. I wonder if the planet will be around long enough for our bones to make it that far.

Hi Carrie, I heard about this find earlier this week and thought it was so touching. Something about the way that the bones are arranged in the embrace almost look like a heart to me too.

That is terrific that your son is into archeology! I find that there’s so much that we can learn from our own children if we keep our ears open.

Thanks for stopping by my Photo Hunt and for the compliments on my photos. You asked what camera I’m using- I have had a Canon Digital Rebel XT for just about a year now. I’m a total novice but learning lots every day.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I heard about this. I do believe they found similar remains or at least forms in embrace in the digs from Vesuvius, Italy… the volcanic ash encased them.

That is so touching, so strangely tender.
