Arr Cap’n, Pirates Ahead!
We’ve had a lot of fun today getting ready for Kel’s upcoming birthday party. The theme is going to be pirates, and today we made the invitations and worked on the treasure chest. Of course, after getting the treasure chest just about done, I remembered a perfectly suitable small wooden chest sitting on top of my chest of drawers. That’s okay. I’ll use that one for the party and let the boys keep the one I’m making out of a shoebox to play with in their rooms.
The invitations were done up on grey granite resume paper and say:
Ahoy there, Mateys!
Cap’n Kelsey has survived 9 years on the wild open seas, and ye be invited to the swashbuckling festivities in honor o’ his birthday! So hoist ye sails, brave lads, and make haste to the fun if ye dare… we’ll be having a spine-tingling, blood-curdling good time!Point yer bows to Latitude & Longitude: (the address)
We’s expectin’ ye to be there at 2pm on Sunday February 18th, and ye can go back to yer mums at about 4pm if ye survive!Shiver me timbers, I almost forgot!
RSVP to prove yer not yeller – (our number) or use that fancy email thingee and send it to (my email addy)Don’t be late or ye’ll walk the plank!
Sees ye there… Yeaarrghhh!
It’s complete with little jolly roger graphics, a skeleton pirate, and some other piratey graphics. Kelsey’s actually only “survived the seas” for 8 years - he’ll be 9 on his birthday - but he reasons that since the party is a couple days *after* his birthday that he’ll be *in* his 9th year. Heh.
After printing them out we cut the edges to look like the wavy sides of a scroll or treasure map, dipped the paper in tea to stain it, baked them dry in the oven and burned the edges a bit. They look GREAT, and they’re all stiff like parchment. Rolled ‘em up and tied them with some gold thread, and they’re ready to distribute. I kept the best looking one for Kelsey, we’ll get a frame for it so he can hang it up in his room.
Hopefully after Mike gets home I can figure out where a working camera is and take pics of the invites for you. He’s bringing home some huge boxes that Mom commandeered from work; we’ll be turning those into two pirate ships this week. You should hear Kelsey reading the invites in his pirate accent, Mom even called twice so he could read it over the phone to her and her friends at work. Y’arrrrhhh, mateys!
What do you think? I wanna know! Please leave a comment :)
