Scrapbooking Goes Commercial
I had an interesting site sent to me today; The Invitation Depot. Now we’ve all heard of (and probably used) those services where you walk into your local 3rd-party mailbox or print office and look through a huge book of invitations. You’d think that is what this site would be like, only ported to the web. Not at all!
I suppose the printing industry took a huge hit when scrapbooking became so popular. It took a few years to catch on, but now there are commercially-printed options that resemble personal, handmade scrapbooking-type invitations. There’s embossing, parchment, layers, thermography, die-cuts, shadowboxing, even 3-D surfaces in the offerings at The Invitation Depot. Take a look at All Wrapped Up. This isn’t your typical wedding invitation. That cute little envelope tied to the card with a ribbon is straight out of scrapbooking. Or check out Champagne. Those are outstanding, with the die-cut windows and the ribbon lacing through the invite.
The prices do seem pretty high to me, but then again it’s been over a decade since I went shopping for wedding/party invitations. 
Besides, this is a different class of invitation with a lot more… “depth” and thought involved. And when you think about having to sit and make over a hundred of invites like those by hand, the price seems more than reasonable. If you really get your heart set on two different ones, you can always request a sample and judge how they feel and look in your hand.
Kinda makes me wish I had a wedding to plan… perish the thought! LOL
